Tangly beautiful blueprint

Small hopeful thoughts from the garden, and two RVA shows upcoming! 5/28 and 6/7

At the edge of dusk a few evenings ago, I was pouring water over the day-warmed soil of a very dense spring garden, and I smiled softly and I perceived the garden smiling back, as if to point to itself and then right back to my spirit, saying ‘See? You believe in a flourishing future!’ It could be said that I over-planted this year—(would anyone like a spinach plant? I’m serious! There are a couple of extras hiding under the kale leaves)—and I would agree, nodding towards each of the many seedlings I planted knowing both that I may not have room for them and that I’d make room.

For me, spending time in the company of plants—all their new cells taking form before my eyes—weaves a tangly beautiful blueprint of what creativity can be. Fear of scarcity dissipates a little bit and I remember that beauty always exists in potential, and I pick up a pen with all the hope of an eager early-spring gardener, ready to know what will happen when it touches the page. ✨

JUNIPER TREE UPDATES

Upcoming Shows

Richmond, VA Tuesday, May 28 at The Camel with Pat Keefe, Jon Dell, and Farewell Friend $12 adv / $15 dos
There is something special about live music on a weeknight. I love when music is the thing that snaps me out of the grind. Would absolutely love to share some music with you this post-holiday-weekend Tuesday night. We’ll be playing a new song and having fun with our tried and true ones. 🙂 We play first at 8pm sharp to kick off a great evening of music! Save $3 by getting your ticket in advance!!

Richmond, VA Friday, June 7 at Harry’s Library supporting Sam Valentine’s EP release! $10! A steal!
We would LOVE for you to join us at The Hofheimer Building in celebration of Sam’s new music. Listen (on repeat) to the single, Better In Your Dreams (Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you listen!) and then come to hear the full collection of songs live on release day! We had a wonderful time back in March at Harry’s Library and are very much looking forward to returning soon. Hope to see you there!

INSPIRATION LATELY

The Order of Time – Carlo Rovelli
Dune – Frank Herbert (and Denis Villeneuve’s films!)
Mary Oliver (always)

BEFORE YOU GO,
A POEM FOR THE ROAD:

Membrane

I make trades
through my skin
I waste
fertile moments by wishing
I tell stories that scare me
I get glued to my seat
I forget the rush of peace a paintbrush brings.
I want to make beautiful things
because I want to find more
beauty in the invisible air.
I want to pull scarves from the dark hat of deep space,
then never see the same.
